Overview

About SISTPOMMS

The Special Incentive to ST(P)/OBC/MOBC Meritorious Students is a merit-based cash award run by the Government of Assam for students from the Scheduled Tribe (Plains), Other Backward Class and More Other Backward Class communities. It is administered by the state's Directorate of Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes, also referenced as the Directorate of Tribal Affairs (Plain), which advertises the scheme and calls for applications each cycle.

The award recognises academic performance at four stages of study: matriculation, higher secondary (10+2), graduation and post-graduation. It is paid as a one-time cash grant, and the amount is set by the level a student has cleared. Selection rests on the marks secured rather than on household means, and the notification states that no parental or guardian income limit applies.

It is meant for ST(P), OBC and MOBC students in Assam who reach the merit thresholds fixed for each educational stage. Applications go to the Director, Tribal Affairs (Plain), where a selection committee scrutinises them; when more eligible applications arrive than the year's target and available funds can cover, a merit list decides who receives the grant.
