Abhinandan Education Loan Subsidy Scheme(AELSS)
Overview
About AELSS
The Abhinandan Education Loan Subsidy Scheme is a State scheme of the Government of Assam that helps students carry the cost of an education loan taken for higher studies. It is run by the Finance Department. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched it on 26 December 2019 at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium, with Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma present.
The benefit is a one-time cash subsidy on the education loan a student has already availed. The State reduces the effective loan burden so that a bank loan does not stand between a resident student and a place at a good institution.
It is meant for permanent residents of Assam who have taken an education loan from a scheduled commercial bank or a regional rural bank operating in the State to fund their higher education. The exact loan thresholds, resident conditions and documents that decide eligibility are set out in the scheme's official criteria, which you should read in full before applying.
