Coaching For Higher Studies(CHS-ASSAM)
Overview
About CHS-ASSAM
Coaching for Higher Studies is a scheme of the Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Department, Government of Assam, delivered through its Directorate for Welfare of Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes. It funds coaching for students of Assam's tea tribes' community, covering HSLC and HSSLC board examinations, medical and engineering entrance, and the Civil Services.
The state bears the cost of the coaching rather than paying students directly. Deputy Commissioners of the districts, in consultation with local MLAs, set up coaching centres at district headquarters and sub-divisions for board-examination preparation, while a state-level civil services programme of at least three months is run in Guwahati. Funds move to the Deputy Commissioners and the coaching institutions by electronic transfer, and 30 per cent of the sanctioned seats are earmarked for girl candidates.
The scheme is for members of the tea tribes' community who are permanent residents of Assam and hold a valid caste certificate, with places allotted on qualifying marks against the seats available. Selection is carried out by the Deputy Commissioners of the districts. Check the Directorate's page for the current year's eligibility, income limit and seat details before you apply, since those are revised from cycle to cycle.
