Special Incentive to OBC Meritorious Students (Boys & Girls)(SIOMSBG)
Overview
About SIOMSBG
The Special Incentive to OBC Meritorious Students (Boys & Girls) is a merit-based cash award run by the Government of Assam for students from Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities in the state. It is administered through the state's Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes as part of Assam's backward-class welfare programme.
The scheme rewards strong performance in the higher secondary (HSSLC) examination and is meant to encourage OBC students to continue into higher education. The benefit is a one-time cash incentive. Assam has stated that there is no parental income ceiling for the award, so selection turns on academic merit rather than financial need.
It is open to OBC students in Assam who clear the HSSLC examination with high marks. Applications are placed before a selection committee, which scrutinises them and approves the list of beneficiaries; the number of awards in any year is limited by the funds available.
