Overview

About STSS

This is a Tamil Nadu state scholarship for students from the Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC) who are pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate courses at Central Government institutions such as the IITs, IIMs, IIITs, NITs, and Central Universities. It is run by the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu, and is administered by the Directorate of Backward Classes Welfare, which was set up in 1969.

The scheme provides cash assistance to cover the cost of studying at these institutions, including tuition, examination, and other compulsory fees for the duration of the course. The department invites both fresh and renewal applications for each academic year, so a student who received support in an earlier year applies again to continue it.

To be considered, you need to be a resident of Tamil Nadu and belong to the BC, MBC, or DNC categories, and your family income must fall within the ceiling the department sets. The exact income limit, the annual assistance cap, and the documents required are listed alongside this summary; check them against your own circumstances before you apply.
