Overview

About STASTYA

The Scheme to Award Scholarship to Young Artists is a state scholarship run by the Art and Culture Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, through the Oviya Nunkalai Kuzhu, the state's art and culture council. It pays an annual cash award to fine arts students at the two government fine arts colleges the department oversees.

The award goes to students in the final year of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) and Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) programmes at the Government College of Fine Arts in Chennai and its counterpart in Kumbakonam. Selection is on merit, and the Principals of the two colleges recommend who receives it each year.

The Chennai college is among the oldest art institutions in the country. It was established in 1850, is now affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University, and teaches painting, sculpture, printmaking and allied disciplines.
