Overview

About SITVIIISBWODAP

The Scholarship (I to VIII Standard) is a state cash scholarship run by the Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Government of Tamil Nadu. The department was formed in 1994 to carry out welfare and rehabilitation work for people with disabilities, and it operates through a State Commissionerate for the Welfare of the Differently Abled based in Chennai.

The scholarship supports differently-abled children in the primary and upper-primary years, from Standard I to Standard VIII, who study in government schools in the state. The grant is meant to cover the cost of notebooks and books, so that the price of basic learning material is not a reason for a child to fall behind or leave school early.

The benefit is paid as a direct cash grant, with the amount set by the class the student is in. Applications are handled at the district level through the District Differently Abled Welfare Office rather than through a central online form.
