Scheme for Meritorious Students to Pursue Higher Secondary Education in the Best Schools of Tamil Nadu(SFMSTN)
Overview
About SFMSTN
The Scheme for Meritorious Students to Pursue Higher Secondary Education in the Best Schools of Tamil Nadu is run by the state's Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department. It gives financial assistance to a set number of high-scoring students in each district so they can study Classes 11 and 12 at private schools of their choice, rather than letting cost decide where they finish school.
Selection rests on the Class 10 public examination. The department picks the ten top-ranking students in each district on the strength of those results and funds them through the higher secondary stage. The purpose is to keep academic merit from stalling at the point where private schooling becomes too expensive for a family.
The scheme is meant for meritorious students from Tamil Nadu's Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities, and the benefit is paid as cash toward the cost of higher secondary schooling. Eligibility turns on rank in the Class 10 exam together with the department's community and family-income conditions.
