Overview

About SMTWOC

The Sanction of Motorized Three Wheeler to Orthopedically Challenged is a state scheme of Andhra Pradesh. It is run by the A.P. Differently Abled and Senior Citizens Assistance Corporation, which sits under the state's Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, and was introduced under the corporation's 2017-18 action plan.

Under the scheme, an eligible orthopedically challenged person is given a motorized three-wheeler that is customised or adapted for their use. This is an in-kind benefit, a vehicle rather than a cash grant, meant to improve everyday mobility and independence and to make it easier to reach a college or a place of work. Vehicles are distributed at the district level through the corporation's Assistant Directors and District Managers.

The scheme is aimed at working-age residents of Andhra Pradesh who have a locomotor (orthopedic) disability and who are either pursuing higher education or earning through self-employment or a job. Age, disability-severity and family-income conditions apply, and the three-wheeler can be sanctioned only once in a person's lifetime. Applications are made online, and the window opens when the corporation advertises the scheme in the newspapers.
