Safai Karmakaar Putr/Putri Cycle sahayata yojana(SKPCSY)
Overview
About SKPCSY
The Safai Karmakaar Putr/Putri Cycle Sahayata Yojana is a welfare scheme of the Government of Chhattisgarh for the children of sanitation workers in the unorganised sector. The state started it on 27 August 2015. It runs under the state Labour Department and is administered through the Chhattisgarh Unorganised Workers State Social Security Board, the body that registers unorganised-sector workers and delivers their welfare schemes.
The benefit is given in kind: a bicycle for the son or daughter of a registered sanitation worker. The aim is to ease the daily travel to school or college for these children, so that distance and the cost of transport are less of a reason to drop out. It is one of several education-support schemes the board runs for families that depend on unorganised work.
Eligibility runs through the parent. The scheme is meant for households where a sanitation worker is registered with the Chhattisgarh Unorganised Workers State Social Security Board, and it then covers that worker's studying child. It is aimed at the unorganised sector, where a safai karmakar's income alone rarely stretches to the added costs of schooling.
