Overview

About RTFWESW-SW

The Reimbursement of Tuition Fees to the Wards of Ex-Servicemen/Widows is a welfare scheme of the Department of Sainik Welfare, Government of Puducherry. It refunds tuition fees paid by the children of ex-servicemen, and by widows of ex-servicemen, who are studying in government-recognised institutions. The benefit reaches the family as a cash reimbursement of fees already paid, not an upfront grant.

The department runs the scheme through its Rajya Sainik Board and draws the money from the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. That fund is the national ex-servicemen welfare pool set up in 1993 and administered by the Kendriya Sainik Board under the Ministry of Defence's Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare; it supports ex-servicemen, war widows and their dependents, with education for their children among its stated uses.

The scheme is meant for wards of ex-servicemen, or widows of ex-servicemen, who are registered with the Department of Sainik Welfare in Puducherry. Because it works by reimbursement, a family claims it after the tuition fees have been paid, supported by the original fee receipts and proof of the ex-serviceman's or widow's status.
