Reimbursement of Tuition Fees for Typewriting and Shorthand Courses for Children of Widows(RTFTSCCW)
Overview
About RTFTSCCW
The Reimbursement of Tuition Fees for Typewriting and Shorthand Courses for Children of Widows is a state welfare scheme run by the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Puducherry. It refunds the fees paid by children of widows who enrol in typewriting or shorthand training, so the cost of learning these skills does not sit on a single-parent household.
The department was set up in August 1996, carved out of the Social Welfare Department to work only on women and children. It delivers the scheme through its Women Development wing, which handles support and protection measures for women, alongside its child services and social defence work. Widows and destitute families are among the groups the department is meant to reach.
The benefit is paid as cash, reimbursing tuition fees rather than covering them upfront, and it is meant for children of widows who are residents of the Union Territory. Typewriting and shorthand still serve as entry qualifications for clerical and secretarial work, and the scheme is aimed at keeping that route open for families that might otherwise drop the training on cost. Whether a family qualifies turns on the widow's income and residence in Puducherry, with the fee limits and conditions set by the department.
