Overview

About PRLVISHWAS

The Vikram Sarabhai Postdoctoral Fellowship (VISHWAS) is run by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), a unit of the Department of Space, and is named to honour the legacy of Prof. Vikram Sarabhai. It supports young doctorates who want to carry out independent research in fundamental science with societal relevance.

The fellowship is a cash award: fellows receive a monthly amount along with House Rent Allowance and other benefits as per PRL and Department of Space rules. It runs for up to two years, with renewal after an annual performance review and the possibility of a further one-year extension where justified. Research is carried out within PRL's areas of work, which span astronomy and astrophysics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, geosciences, planetary sciences, space and atmospheric sciences, and theoretical physics.

It is aimed at Indian nationals who have recently completed a PhD and have a strong research record. Applicants submit a research proposal, and shortlisting is based on academic credentials, the proposal itself, and recommendations from reviewers. Exact age, degree-recency and academic thresholds apply, so read the eligibility conditions before you apply.
