About R-CF
The Raman-Charpak Fellowship supports doctoral researchers who spend part of their PhD work in the other country, so an Indian scholar carries out research in France and a French scholar in India. It is named for two Nobel laureates in physics, C.V. Raman, the Indian laureate of 1930, and Georges Charpak, the French laureate of 1992. The programme was launched during the state visit of the President of France to India in February 2013.
The fellowship is jointly funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the French Institute in India at the French Embassy, under France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. It is run by the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA), the bilateral agency that manages Indo-French scientific cooperation.
The stated aim is to sharpen the doctoral skills of Indian and French students by letting them do a stretch of their research in a university or R&D institute abroad, and to build the two countries' longer-term work in science, technology and innovation. It is open to PhD students registered at recognised institutions in either country, and the scheme has also been extended to French master's students who wish to do an internship in India. The award is a composite one, covering a monthly stipend along with travel and related costs for a stay that runs between two and six months.

Eligibility criteria
| Applicants from India must be Indian citizens residing in India and have registered for a PhD in a recognized university or research institution in India. | |
| Applicants from France must be residing in France and have registered for a PhD/Master’s Degree in a recognized university or research institution in France. | |
| Maximum age 30 years as of 1st April of the call year. | |
| Students once supported by CEFIPRA and students who have a permanent position in institutions/universities are not eligible. | |
| Pre-authorization or prior consent from his/her Institute/University to apply for a foreign fellowship program. |

- Value of Fellowship for French Fellow: Fellowship support ₹40,000/- per month for daily expenses, local travel, etc. plus accommodation charges not exceeding ₹45,000/- per month.
