Overview

About PMSSCSTB

The Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Students-Bihar is a cash scholarship run by the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, the state's nodal department for SC and ST welfare. It is Bihar's delivery of the centrally sponsored Post-Matric Scholarship, which helps SC and ST students meet the costs of continuing their education after they clear matriculation (Class 10).

Post-matric scholarships for SC and ST students are centrally sponsored schemes: the Centre and the states share the cost, and the states run the delivery. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment administers the scheme for SC students, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs administers the parallel scheme for ST students. Both pay the money by direct benefit transfer into the student's bank account. In Bihar, the SC & ST Welfare Department invites applications, checks eligibility and releases the scholarship.

The scholarship is for SC and ST students of Bihar studying at the post-matriculation or post-secondary stage, which runs from Class 11 through college and postgraduate courses at recognised institutions. The benefit is cash support toward the fees and living costs of that education. Students apply through the state's Post Matric Scholarship portal.
