About BCEBCGRHS

The BC & EBC Girls Residential +2 High School scheme is, for the most part, not money in a bank account. It is a place in one of 39 government boarding schools that Bihar's Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department runs for girls, with teaching, a hostel bed and meals at no cost to the family.

Entry is by a written test, and most of it happens at one door. For 2026-27 the department listed 1,560 probable vacancies in Class VI and only a few hundred across Classes VII to IX, so the family that plans around the girl's Class V year is the one best placed to use it (2026-27 admission notice).

On the department's own portal the schools carry their Hindi name, Anya Pichhda Varg Kanya Awasiya +2 Uchch Vidyalaya, rendered in English as "OBC Girl's Residential +2 High School". The portal counts 39 schools spread over all 38 districts, with roughly 12,320 places from Class 6 to Class 12 and Class 6 admissions decided by an entrance test (BC and EBC Welfare Department school portal). The district table in the admission notice accounts for the extra school: Patna appears in it twice, once for a school at Mokama (2026-27 admission notice).

Capacity and use are not the same number. In September 2026 the live counters on that portal read 7678 students, 485 teachers and 102 non-teaching staff, against the roughly 12,320 places it advertises (school portal counters).

The scheme suits a Backward Class or Extremely Backward Class family ready to send a daughter to board from Class 6 right through to Class 12, since the schools run the whole span. The department lists free admission, free accommodation and free food as per menu, so the running costs of the hostel and the mess stay with the state (school portal facilities list).

Important dates

The department runs one admission cycle a year, timed so that classes open with the academic session in April. The 2026-27 notice set this timetable:

The 2026-27 calendar did not end in March. The portal's own date panel gives the first admission window as 23 to 31 March 2026, a week later than the notice, and the third merit list's admission window ran from 20 to 27 May 2026 (school portal notice board). The opening month moves as well: a year earlier, Saran's district administration posted the 2025-26 call for applications on 17/02/2025, under memo No. 102 of 15/02/2025 (Saran district notice). As of September 2026 the portal's newest admission notice is still the 2026-27 one, so the 2027-28 dates are not yet known.

Once a girl is in, the department's 2026 holiday calendar sets the long breaks: a summer break from 1 to 15 June and a 31-day festival break from 17 October to 16 November covering Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath (2026 holiday calendar for the schools).

Eligibility criteria

The age limits need the closest reading, because they have moved. The 2026-27 admission notice measures age on 1 April 2026 and sets these bands, next to the probable vacancies it listed for each entry class:

The two official sources disagree here. Every lower limit in the notice sits one year below the band on the scheme's myScheme listing, while the upper limits match, so a girl who was ten on 1 April 2026 could sit for Class VI under the notice even though the listing would count her as too young. The notice is the document the admission runs on, so read its age clause afresh each year rather than trusting an older summary.

The income test is about the parents or guardian, not the girl. The notice caps their annual income at Rs 3 lakh, and the portal's own registration manual repeats that applicants with an annual family income of up to Rs 3 lakh are the ones who may apply (portal user manual).

Exclusions

myScheme publishes no exclusion list for this scheme, but beyond the caste and income tests the department's own notices name three ways an otherwise eligible girl falls out of the running:

• An age outside the band on 1 April of the admission year, with the date of birth on her school leaving certificate treated as final (2026-27 admission notice).
• An application saved on the portal but not finalised before the last date; the portal's notice board says such forms will be rejected (school portal).
• A seat offer not taken up inside its admission window. For the third merit list of 2026-27 that window ran from 20 to 27 May 2026, and the portal warned that eligibility would be cancelled for anyone who missed it (school portal notice board).

Renewal conditions

There is no yearly renewal form in anything the department has published for these schools. The schools teach up to Class 12 and the admission notice opens entry only at Classes VI to IX, so the one competitive step is the entry test (2026-27 admission notice).

What does repeat each year is on the school's side. Under the department's JEEViKA guideline, the district officer sends an indent covering every enrolled girl before the session opens so continuing students get their uniforms before classes start, while new entrants are measured and supplied by April (JEEViKA guideline for the residential schools).

Award & benefits

The benefit is the seat and what comes with it. Neither the 2026-27 admission notice nor the portal's home page states the rupee amount of the DBT payment for clothes, books, medicine and cleaning, so the scheme's value cannot be given as a single figure.

How the girls are fed and clothed is set out in detail. Resolution No. 1769 of 21.11.2024 handed meals (snacks included), uniform supply, laundry and campus cleaning to community organisations backed by JEEViKA, the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society, with the mess run as "Didi ki Rasoi" to a fixed menu (JEEViKA guideline). The guideline's per-girl standards are specific enough to check on a visit:

The Chief Minister's educational tour listed among the benefits is a real outing, not a line on paper. The Sitamarhi school's girls were taken to Vaishali on 05/02/2026 under the Mukhyamantri Paribhraman Yojana, according to the school's own post on the department portal (school portal events).

What to prepare

Documents required

Three certificates do the real work, and all three should come from the circle (anchal) office. The 2026-27 notice asks applicants to upload a caste certificate, an income certificate and a residence certificate issued by the anchal, along with a photograph and a signature (2026-27 admission notice).

The portal's notice board lets two papers wait. A birth-related certificate and the residence certificate need not be attached to the form, but both have to be shown when she is admitted to her class (school portal notice board). Keep the school leaving certificate ready as well, since the age test goes by it.

The form also asks for each certificate's number and date of issue, and for the Aadhaar details of the father, the mother or a guardian, whichever the family chooses (portal user manual).

Step by step

How to apply

For 2026-27 the department took applications only online, through bcebconline.bihar.gov.in, and told families who struggle with the online form to go to their district's Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare office for help (2026-27 admission notice). The scheme's myScheme record still offers a paper form handed in at the district welfare office as an alternative; the notice, which calls the process fully online, left no room for one.

The portal's registration manual lays out the form in this order (portal user manual):

1. Register as a student, choosing whose Aadhaar the form will carry: the father's, the mother's or a guardian's.
2. Log in with the User ID and Password issued at registration; the same page has a link to retrieve them.
3. Fill the personal details page, where every field marked with an asterisk is compulsory, and save it before moving on.
4. Upload the girl's photograph and her signature.
5. Upload each certificate and type in its number and issue date.
6. Choose the preferred schools for admission.
7. Finalise the application and print a copy. A finalised form cannot be edited.

Tracking the Result, the Seat Offer and a Complaint

Everything after the form runs through the same portal. When the third merit list came out, the portal's notice board told applicants to log in with their User ID and Password to see whether they had been selected, and the score card download on the home page sits behind the same student login (school portal).

A family without the login details can still look a girl up on the Applicant Result Status page, either by picking her district, category, class and date of birth or by entering her Student ID or a mobile number (Applicant Result Status). The admit card for the test can be downloaded from the portal or collected from the district welfare office within the set period (2026-27 admission notice).

A student or a parent can file a complaint about education, health or food at the school through the portal's grievance form and follow it with the Feedback ID on the tracking page. The portal's public menu has no page for checking DBT payments, so a missing payment goes to the nearest district welfare office, the desk its notice board names for anything the site cannot answer.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Admission to Classes VI, VII, VIII and IX goes by a two-hour objective test, and both the test and the admission are free (2026-27 admission notice). The notice gives each of the 39 schools 40 Class VI vacancies, which is why that class dominates the intake.

Seats are then offered through merit lists released in rounds, each with its own admission window. In 2026-27 the rounds ran to at least a third merit list, and the portal's home page now carries a Spot Admission link that opens a list of vacant seats (school portal). The notice does not set out how a test score and a list of preferred schools combine into a particular offer.

Terms & conditions

The written conditions that reach inside the school sit in the JEEViKA guideline, and two of them protect the girl directly. A garment lost in the laundry is replaced with a new one for her, its value cut from the laundry bill, and a uniform that does not fit is altered at no extra cost and returned within 10 days (JEEViKA guideline).

For a school where girls live away from home, safeguarding matters as much as fees. The portal's Acts & Rules list carries a document on POCSO committees in these schools, posted on 30 January 2026, and the Sheikhpura school reported setting up its committee under the POCSO Act with the principal as chair (school portal notices and events).
