About OCD

Orientation Courses in Dramatics is a training course, not a scholarship. The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) admits individuals, chosen by interview, to classes in the crafts behind a tiatr, from script writing and direction to lights and make-up.

Nobody is paid a stipend or an award. The one sum that can reach a participant is a refund of transport charges, and only after they finish a full course the Academy ran itself.

TAG, an autonomous body under the Government of Goa (Department of Information and Publicity, Goa), runs this as scheme 7 of its own rules. The Academy's charter calls tiatr the most popular dramatic form of Goa, and says TAG framed the course because many artistes wanted regular training in dramatics and it wanted better tiatr performances (TAG citizen charter).

The rules now posted on TAG's website title it "Orientation Courses in Tiatr" and add a transport refund that the older charter text, the one myScheme reproduces, does not carry (scheme 7 rules). Teaching follows a syllabus TAG sets. Graduates of the National School of Drama or the Kala Academy School of Drama take the classes, while people working in tiatr handle script writing, lyric composition and the history of the form.

myScheme files this course under Goa's Art, Culture and Museums Department (myScheme), the label it also gives TAG's workshop scheme and its interschool dance competition. Only this one has learners apply in their own names: under scheme 6 the host of a talk or workshop applies, and under scheme 21 the school's name heads the entry (scheme 6 rules, scheme 21 rules).

Eligibility criteria

Rule 4 admits any individual who wants training in tiatr, including its song and music performances (scheme 7 rules). Neither version of the rules sets an age limit, a qualification, an income ceiling or a residence condition, and neither asks for stage experience.

The participant form still asks for your date of birth and any theatre experience or workshops you have attended. The 2025 edition was pitched at youth, college students and aspiring tiatrists (Department of Information and Publicity, Goa).

A second form exists for organisers. An organiser who wants a course held fills it in, naming any 3 aspects it wants taught, the number of participants and the proposed dates, time and place (scheme 7 rules). TAG's own account of the course it held at Nuvem Panchayat Hall in 2021 names a local partner, Kala Niketan (Goa) (TAG, Nuvem course).

Exclusions

TAG publishes no exclusion list; applicants drop out by missing a step. The interview is the main filter, and the rules name no appeal. An application sent on anything other than the prescribed form, or without the Aadhaar copy, does not meet rules 5 and 10. Missing the last date in the call closes that course to you.

Two limits apply to the transport refund. It goes only to a participant who completes the full course, so leaving midway forfeits it. It also covers only a course TAG organised on its own, which reads as excluding one an outside organiser hosts (scheme 7 rules).

Renewal conditions

There is nothing to renew, because nothing is paid out term after term. Each course is announced and applied for on its own, and the rules neither cap nor promise a place in a later one.

The benefit is the teaching itself, delivered in kind. Neither version of the rules mentions a course fee, and neither promises a certificate, where scheme 6 writes certificates, stationery and mementos into its rules (scheme 6 rules). Practice has run ahead of the text: participation certificates were handed out at the close of the 2021 Nuvem course (TAG, Nuvem course).

The only money is rule 9 of the current scheme 7 rules on TAG's website: actual transport charges, at rates TAG fixes, repaid after the participant completes the full course. TAG has not published those rates. The charter copy of scheme 7, which myScheme follows, stops at ten rules and has no such clause (TAG citizen charter).

How long a course runs is not fixed. The 2025 edition was one day, June 2, 2025, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in TAG's conference hall, covering direction, script writing, acting, singing and technical sections (Department of Information and Publicity, Goa). The Nuvem course four years earlier ran 10 evenings, from March 22 to 31, 2021, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and 32 artistes took part (TAG, Nuvem course).

Participant form 7(B) itself asks for your full name, postal address, date of birth, phone number, email and Aadhaar number, a note on earlier theatre experience, and your opinion of the workshop, and you sign that the details are true (scheme 7 rules).

The form asks for no bank account, PAN, income or caste certificate. The rules do not say what proof of travel TAG accepts for the transport refund, so ask the office before the course starts.

How to apply

Applications are on paper and follow a public call. Rule 5 says TAG invites them through the local press or by invitation to Konkani dramatic troupes, and in 2025 the Goa government's information department carried the notice.

Watch for the call in Goa's newspapers or through your troupe, and note the last date.
Get participant form 7(B) from the TAG office, or print it from the scheme 7 rules on TAG's website, which carry both forms (scheme 7 rules).
Fill in every field, sign the declaration and attach the self-attested Aadhaar copy.
Hand the complete application to the TAG office during office hours, on or before the last date, as the 2025 notice required (Department of Information and Publicity, Goa).

The rules provide no online portal and no application number, and myScheme lists the application mode as offline (myScheme). The only way to track an application is to phone or email the office given under Contact. The same applies to a transport refund after the course, since the rules give no timeline for payment.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Rule 6 says TAG selects applicants by interview. The rules publish no marking scheme, no panel composition and no number of seats, so how experience, age or the stated interest is weighed is left to the Academy (scheme 7 rules).

myScheme's application steps for this course end with a note that applications are taken first come, first served and subject to available funds (myScheme). Neither version of the scheme 7 rules says so; that wording is rule 9 of scheme 6, the workshop scheme (scheme 6 rules). For this course, TAG's own text makes the interview the test.

Fine print

Terms & conditions

Rule 8 calls the training preliminary, while saying it will help tiatr artistes raise the standard of tiatr. Rule 11 lets TAG change the rules, and the two official versions already differ on the transport refund. When they conflict, ask the office which version governs the course you are applying for.

An organiser signs that they have read the rules and will abide by them; a participant signs that the information given is true (scheme 7 rules).
