National Awards To Teachers (Higher Education)(NATTHE)
Overview
About NATTHE
The National Award to Teachers (Higher Education) is a central government honour for faculty working in India's colleges, universities and higher education institutions. It sits under the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, and nominations are handled through the national awards portal at awards.gov.in.
The award honours faculty members for their work in teaching, research, institutional service, community outreach and original contributions to higher education. Fifty awards are conferred each year, and each carries a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of ₹50,000. myScheme classifies the benefit as composite: this is a national recognition for individual teachers rather than a scholarship, loan or grant.
Eligibility rests on a teacher's record rather than financial need. It is open to regular faculty at higher education institutions across the country who have at least five years of full-time undergraduate or postgraduate teaching experience and are not above 55 years of age on the last date for applications. Vice-Chancellors, Directors and Principals are not eligible, and self-nomination is not allowed; teachers are put forward by their institution's leadership or by colleagues, with the ceremony held on 5 September each year.
