About NCCSIS

NCCS publishes the names of the people it picks. The result sheet for the July to September 2026 quarter lists five Category I interns and two Category II interns by name, with a date by which each had to report (Intern Result Q3-2026). That sheet is the last step of a cycle the NCCS Internship Scheme repeats every quarter from one office in Bengaluru, and almost everything that decides it happens before the selection committee sits.

The National Centre for Communication Security is the Department of Telecommunications' technical centre for telecom security, and its defining job is writing the Indian Telecom Security Assurance Requirements (ITSAR) and running the security testing and certification that telecom equipment has to clear. The scheme document is unusually frank about why students are brought in at all: the work needs domain experts with 10 to 15 years of experience for the advisory role, and the internship is capacity building, a way to grow young engineers alongside regular staff rather than a general-purpose government internship (NCCS Internship Scheme).

That makes the intake narrower than the scheme's placement in a scholarship listing suggests. The subject matter named in the document is hardware level security, static and dynamic source code analysis, crypto algorithm and crypto module validation, supply chain and runtime vulnerabilities, and hidden malware in equipment firmware. What the intern is put next to is standards drafting and equipment testing rather than a general administrative file, and the mode is offline in Bengaluru, stated as such in the vacancy notification with no remote option anywhere in it.

The cycle is quarterly and the calling notice lands a few weeks before the quarter it recruits for. The current one, for October to December 2026, is dated 28-08-2026 and set Tuesday 15-09-2026 as the last date for receipt of applications (NCCS Internship Notification Q4-2026). The quarter before it was notified on 15-05-2026 (Intern Result Q3-2026).

The same rhythm runs back through the feed. The April to June 2026 round was notified on 09 March 2026 (NCCS latest updates archive), and the January to March 2026 round on 08 December 2025 (NCCS latest updates archive). A candidate planning around it should treat the notice, not the quarter, as the trigger, and should check whether an extension notice has moved the last date before assuming the window has closed.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

What separates the two categories is where a candidate stands in the degree, not what they studied. Category I is for a student still in the pre-final or final year of a bachelor's programme; Category II is for someone who has completed that degree, or who has completed graduation and is pursuing or holds a master's. The 60% marks floor is identical on both sides and so is the run of disciplines, but the electrical entry is not written the same way twice: for Category I, and for the Category II route that runs on a completed bachelor's degree, electrical engineering is admitted only with majors in electronics, communications or computers, while the Category II route that runs through a master's names electrical engineering without that qualifier (NCCS Internship Scheme).

Two conditions sit outside the record's list. A Category I applicant has to be recommended by the institution where they are currently studying, and the institution signs a block inside the application form naming the exact period it will release the student for. Where marks are held as a CGPA, the college or university conversion formula must be enclosed, and if no such conversion norm exists NCCS applies a multiplying factor of 9 to reach a percentage (NCCS Internship Scheme).

The scheme also keeps a relaxation clause. Qualifications may be relaxed in deserving cases on the recommendation of the selection committee with the approval of the Head of NCCS, and candidates who already have exposure to the area they are applying into are preferred over candidates who only clear the floor.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

Read the scheme document end to end and no clause bars a category of person from applying. The clause that ends applications is procedural, and the vacancy notification states it without softening: incomplete or delayed applications are rejected summarily, with no cure period and no correction window. That makes the packaging rules a live test rather than housekeeping. The filled form and every supporting document travel as one PDF of at most 10 MB, the file is named after the applicant, the internship category is ticked on the form itself, and the candidate is told to check the entries against the original documents before sending, because there is no second look.

One more disqualifier only lands once someone is already inside. The declaration signed at the foot of the application form makes any misrepresentation or falsification of information grounds for the internship to be terminated without notice, and without prejudice to whatever administrative or legal proceedings NCCS chooses to open. Above all of it sits a hard ceiling on the programme: the scheme fixes the total number of interns engaged at no more than 20 across both categories at any point of time, so what a quarter can offer is bounded by how many of those places are already occupied (NCCS Internship Scheme).

The quarterly rhythm answers this before the scheme document does. Each round opens with its own vacancy notification, its own last date and its own selection committee, and nothing an applicant did in the previous quarter travels with them, so a candidate who was not picked in one intake fills the form again for the next one rather than sitting on a carried-forward list.

Inside a term, the only continuation route belongs to Category II. Its minimum engagement is six months and it can run up to a maximum of twelve, but the extension is not automatic: the intern applies for it, the concerned Head of Division recommends it, and the Head of NCCS approves it. Category I has a minimum of 60 days and the scheme names no extension mechanism for it at all.

The two categories are paid differently, and the gap is the clearest reason to read the eligibility text carefully before ticking a box.

The money is paid in arrears. Remuneration is released after the month is complete and only where the concerned division has accepted the progress of work, drawn from the Salaries head of accounts. The vacancy split is set division by division: the annexure to the October to December 2026 notice puts 10 of the Category II places in Security Assurance Standards, 03 in Security Certification and 01 in Security Lab Recognition, and warns that the final vacancy position may vary and that offers are issued against the position at the time of final selection.

The completion certificate has a fixed format annexed to the scheme and is issued by the division the intern was attached to, once the report has been signed and accepted. On facilities, NCCS provides working space and workplace internet, and states plainly that the intern brings their own laptop.

• Interns selected under Category I will be paid a token remuneration ₹ 7,500/- per month on pro-rata basis.
• Interns selected under Category II will be paid a token remuneration ₹ 15,000/- per month on pro-rata basis.
• The remuneration shall be paid after the completion of the month subject to satisfactory progress of work duly accepted by the concerned division from the "Professional Services" head of Accounts.
• Certificate of Internship
• On successful completion of the Internship and submission of the Report duly signed and accepted by the competent authority, a Certificate shall be issued by the concerned Division.
• NCCS shall provide them with working space, workplace Internet facility and other necessities as deemed fit by the concerned Head of Division.
• NOTE: Interns will be required to have their own laptops.

What to prepare

Documents required

The document checklist is the smaller half of the paperwork. The larger half is the application form itself, which asks for a semester-wise marks table covering every year of the engineering degree, both semesters and the overall figure for each year, plus the same grid for a post-graduate degree where one applies.

The form also wants projects undertaken and papers presented or published, and three specific areas of work for the internship listed in order of priority, which is where a candidate signals whether they belong in code assurance, crypto validation or lab recognition. A passport size photograph and the applicant's signed declaration complete it. Every supporting copy is self-attested, and for a Category I applicant the institute's recommendation and permitted joining period are signed and sealed on the same sheet.

How to apply

Everything moves through one inbox. The filled application form, the CV, the stated areas of work interest and the self-attested supporting documents go to adethq.nccs-dot@gov.in with a copy to directorhq.nccs-dot@gov.in, scanned into a single PDF that carries the applicant's own name as the filename. A Category I applicant adds one line the other category does not need: the period within the quarter that the institute will release them for.

Once the PDF has gone to that inbox, an applicant's only instrument is the NCCS website. Neither the scheme document nor the notification creates an application number, a login or a status page; what the notification promises is that the list or panel of shortlisted candidates will be hosted on nccs.gov.in and that offer letters will reach selected candidates by email. So tracking means watching the Latest Updates feed, which carries the whole cycle in one place: the calling notice, any extension of the last date, such as the one posted on 02 April 2026, the selection result, and even the completion end of it, since NCCS publishes finished interns' certificates and reports there under their names (NCCS latest updates archive). The result itself doubles as the joining instruction: the July to September 2026 list told the selected candidates to report on or before 27-Jul-2026.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Applications are first scrutinised for eligibility, and only the shortlisted ones go to a selection committee, which is itself constituted with the approval of the Head of NCCS. The committee may hold a personal or telephonic interview if it wants one, and candidates called for a personal interview are paid no travel or dearness allowance for attending.

Volume changes the shape of the round. The scheme lets NCCS shortlist further depending on how many applications arrive, cap the number of candidates called for a particular period, and decide the mode of screening for that round, so the same paperwork can face a file review in one quarter and a telephonic interview in the next. A second clause bypasses the inbox entirely: interns for a specific work domain may be identified through NCCS's own interaction with academic institutions. Selection is also not the last hurdle for a Category I candidate, who has to produce a letter from the supervisor, head of department or institution stating their status there and giving a No Objection for the period selected, before joining. What none of it amounts to is a foot in the door, and the scheme says so in terms: the internship is neither a job nor an assurance of a job with NCCS.

Terms & conditions

The code of conduct is written for a place that holds equipment vulnerabilities and test results, and it reads that way. Confidential information about NCCS or DoT, about its work or its policies, is not to reach any person or organisation. An intern who wants to take the work to an academic body, a seminar or a conference needs NCCS's prior permission first, and that permission does not lift the confidentiality bar, which the scheme applies under any circumstances. Anything the intern writes or publishes has to carry the caveat that the views are the intern's own and neither represent nor reflect those of NCCS. The scheme also puts the intern's conduct and their access to data squarely on the division they are attached to, as its sole responsibility.

Speaking for the centre is fenced off in two steps. As a general rule an intern may not interact with or represent NCCS to third parties, though some interns may be specifically authorised to do so depending on their work area, and no such exception exists for the media, print, electronic or social alike. Ownership of the output is settled the same way: the scheme vests whatever the intern produces for NCCS during the internship in NCCS, which reserves the right to put it to its own use, and closes off any claim to intellectual property rights over it.

Either side can end the engagement, on unequal terms. NCCS may disengage an intern at any point without assigning a reason. An intern leaving early owes prior notice, and the length tracks the category: 2 weeks for Category I, 4 weeks for Category II, which the supervisor may waive depending on the intern's role. Everything issued has to come back, papers, equipment and other assets, badges and ID cards included. The scheme carries one clause past that exit as well, reserving appropriate legal action against a disengaged intern who carries on giving the impression that they still work for NCCS.
