National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP): Scholarship Component(NHDP:SC)
Overview
About NHDP:SC
The National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) is a central scheme of the Ministry of Textiles, run through the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, and it works towards the sustainable development of India's handloom weavers. The Scholarship Component is the education-focused part of that programme, aimed at the children of handloom weavers and workers.
The aim is to help a weaver's child meet the cost of studying at a recognised textile institution. Support is paid in cash: it goes towards course fees and adds a monthly stipend, released by direct benefit transfer to the beneficiary's bank account.
Eligibility follows the family's link to the handloom trade. The scholarship is meant for children of handloom weavers and workers who enrol in diploma, graduate or postgraduate textile courses at Central or State government recognised and funded institutions, and it is capped at a limited number of children per weaver family.
