National Award to Teachers (For Excellence in Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship Development)(NATTFEIVTAED)
Overview
About NATTFEIVTAED
The rulebook for this award opens with a cover page that reads "National Awards to Teachers", and that is precisely where trainers get lost. The document underneath is the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship's own, written for instructors in ITIs, National Skill Training Institutes and short-term skilling centres, not for school classrooms National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. If you train on a shop floor or a workshop bench, this is your award, and it is applied for on a portal that most Teachers' Day coverage never names.
This is the skilling stream of the National Awards to Teachers, run by MSDE and its Directorate General of Training rather than by the Ministry of Education. The purpose the guidelines state is narrow: identify and recognise faculty, skill trainers and master trainers who have proven competence in their specialisation, and motivate more of them to make skilling aspirational National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. President Droupadi Murmu framed the same split when she conferred the awards in 2025, telling the gathering that institutions and teachers have to contribute in all three areas of education, school education, higher education and skill education President of India confers National Awards on Teachers, PIB.
The award also has a lineage worth knowing, because it decides who may still be nominated. MSDE instituted it in 2023 as part of National Awards to Teachers, and it replaced the Kaushalacharya Awards the ministry had conferred until then; that first edition carried 25 awards and took nominations on an AICTE-hosted portal MSDE to celebrate achievements of Trainers and Master Trainers in Skilling, PIB.
Two things changed after that. The earlier scheme document ran six categories and reserved a block of 10 awards for faculty of polytechnic institutions National Award to Teachers scheme document, DGT; the current guidelines retire that category, cut the count to sixteen across five categories, and move nominations to the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at awards.gov.in National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. Polytechnic teachers did not lose their award, they moved: the Department of Higher Education now selects them alongside higher education faculty under its own NAT categories Department of Higher Education selects 21 teachers for NAT 2025, PIB.

Calendar
Important dates
The window is short and it sits in July. MSDE printed the whole cycle in the guidelines, from the day nominations opened to the day selection closed:
| Stage | 2025 cycle |
|---|---|
| Nominations invited | 3 July 2025 |
| Deadline for receiving nominations | 17 July 2025 |
| Selection committees constituted | 21 July 2025 |
| Jury constituted | 31 July 2025 |
| Selection process completed | 7 August 2025 |
| Felicitation | 5 September, every year |
The felicitation date is the one fixture in the scheme. Awardees are felicitated on 5 September every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE, and the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal's award calendar places the 2026 edition of this award in its July nomination schedule, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Award Calendar, Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. Since MSDE announces the exact opening and closing dates by circular each year, a trainer planning to apply should have Annexure-I lined up before July rather than after the notice appears.
Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
Regular engagement is the first filter, and it is stricter than it looks. Every category asks for a trainer, master trainer or faculty member engaged on a regular basis, which leaves contract and guest instructors outside the scheme whatever their classroom record, and nobody above 55 years of age on the last date of receiving applications is considered National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. The service floor underneath that is not uniform, which catches people out: the long-term trainer, master trainer and entrepreneurship categories each want at least five years of full-time experience, at CTS or CITS where that applies, while the short-term categories set no minimum number of years at all National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
The long-term categories are tied to specific institutions and specific trades. Skill trainers must come from ITIs and master trainers from NSTIs or Institutes of Training of Trainers, and the top-trade sub-category is fixed against admissions in the 2024-25 session, which pinned it to Electrician, Fitter, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Welder and Mechanic Diesel, with only one award granted in any one trade National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. A separate sub-category exists for New Age courses, which DGT lists as 31 trades running from Drone Technician and Semiconductor Technician to Green Hydrogen Production Technician National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
Short-term trainers are judged on credentials rather than institution type, and the certification has to still be valid. The guidelines want either a registered trainer on Skill India Digital Hub from a government institution or a trainer certified by an awarding body, with certification valid at least up to October 2025, who is delivering or has delivered short-term training National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. Nowhere does the document ask what the applicant or the applicant's household earns, and nothing fixes a minimum age. What is being weighed is a training record.

Who cannot apply
Exclusions
MSDE publishes no standalone list of disqualifications for this award; the three that end an application outright sit inside the eligibility and nomination clauses. Anyone already awarded under any category of the Kaushalacharya Award or of this award in a previous year cannot be nominated again, candidates may apply under one category only, and an application submitted without the certificate at Annexure-I from the prescribed nominating authority is not considered at all National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
Integrity is the quieter bar. Annexure-I is not a recommendation letter, it is a certificate in which the nominating authority states on its own letterhead that no vigilance or departmental enquiry is pending or contemplated against the nominee, that the applicant has not been convicted by any court of law, and that the applicant's integrity is beyond doubt National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. A pending enquiry therefore stops the nomination before it reaches the portal, at the desk of the officer who would have signed it.
Continuation
Renewal conditions
Nothing renews. The award is conferred once, and the guidelines turn that into a permanent bar rather than a gap year, since a past awardee under any category may not be nominated again; an unsuccessful nominee, on the other hand, is expressly eligible for re-nomination in a later cycle National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
What you get
Award & benefits
Each awardee receives a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 50,000, and the cash figure has held steady since the first edition in 2023 National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE MSDE to celebrate achievements of Trainers and Master Trainers in Skilling, PIB.
Travel and stay are covered too, which matters when the ceremony is in Delhi and the awardee teaches in a district ITI. The guidelines commit the government to to-and-fro travel along with boarding and lodging, including local transport between the place of stay and the venue, for awardees attending the felicitation National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. What the award does not carry is any allowance, promotion weight or recurring payment; the benefit begins and ends with the medal, the certificate and the one-time prize.
- Each awardee shall be presented with: Cash Prize of ₹50,000/-
What to prepare
Documents required
Two documents decide whether an application is even opened. The first is Annexure-I on the nominating authority's letterhead, without which the application is not considered; the second is the correct proforma for your category, since long-term trainers and master trainers file Annexure III(a), short-term trainers and master trainers file Annexure III(b), and entrepreneurship faculty file Annexure-IV National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
Everything else is evidence for the scoring matrix, and it has to be uploaded inside the form because no document outside the application form is acceptable National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. For a long-term trainer that means training records of at least 5 lesson or demo plans not older than the last five years, verified and certified by the principal, appraisal reports for the last three years, and proof of the pass percentages, trade test merit positions, IndiaSkills or WorldSkills participation and placement drives that the matrix scores National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. A short-term trainer's equivalent is the TR ID on Skill India Digital Hub and a valid awarding-body certificate; an entrepreneurship faculty member uploads curriculum and incubation evidence against each sub-criterion National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
Step by step
How to apply
You nominate yourself, but you cannot start with the portal. The guidelines describe the nomination as self-nomination on a singular basis, made in the prescribed format on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at awards.gov.in, with a system-generated OTP used for submission and nominations received after the due date not considered National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
What sits in front of that is a quota, and it is the part most applicants discover too late. Annexure-I is issued by a different authority for each category, and each authority may issue only a fixed number: the State Director dealing with CTS may issue it to no more than nine skill trainers in the whole state or UT, one against each of the nine awards spread across Category I's five sub-categories, and the Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to up to four master trainers, two in each sub-category National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. Short-term applicants take Annexure-I from a committee headed by the Mission Director of the State Skill Development Mission, or a Director of an Institute of National Importance, or a competent authority not below director rank in a public sector undertaking imparting short-term training, capped at 9 skill trainers and 3 master trainers; entrepreneurship faculty may take it from their own Vice-Chancellor, Director or Principal, or from a colleague or former faculty member of the same institution National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. In practice the competition for your state's Annexure-I slots is the real first round.
Tracking is thin, and it is better to know that than to keep refreshing a dashboard. The guidelines publish no status-tracking facility: once the application is submitted no changes are allowed, the OTP-backed submission is the only confirmation, and the next signal is an invitation to send a short video clip in MP4 format or a slide deck showcasing your achievements, followed by an interaction with the jury, which only recommended candidates receive National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. The portal itself publishes eligibility criteria, selection procedure and details of past awardees for every award it hosts, so the awardee list is where an outcome eventually shows up About Rashtriya Puraskar, Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

How winners are picked
Selection process
Two bodies decide, and the first one is category-specific. Long-term nominations go to a screening committee headed by the Director General (Training) with the Deputy Director General of DGT, a Director of a central field institution, a State Director dealing with CTS and an industry member; short-term nominations go to a committee headed by an Additional Secretary or Joint Secretary of MSDE with members from NSDC, two awarding bodies and industry; entrepreneurship nominations go to a six-member committee headed by the Joint Secretary (Entrepreneurship), MSDE, with directors from the MSME ministry, DGT, DPIIT and Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, alongside an industry member National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
For a long-term skill trainer or master trainer, the scoring matrix is published in full, and it rewards what trainees achieved far more than what the trainer collected:
| Parameter | Marks |
|---|---|
| Knowledge and expertise | 30 |
| Training and motivational skills | 15 |
| Impact and results | 35 |
| Contribution to the field | 15 |
| Annual Performance Appraisal Reports, last three years | 5 |
Inside those blocks the heaviest single line is trainee marks: the average percentage of total marks scored by the trainees the applicant trained over the last three sessions is worth 10 on its own, against 5 each for pass percentage, All India Trade Test merit positions, IndiaSkills or WorldSkills results and campus placement drives National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE. Contribution to the field is scored on question banks built with NIMI, revision of syllabi and content development with CSTARI and NIMI, and e-content developed for Bharat Skills, so a trainer who has never worked outside their own institute gives up that block entirely National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
The entrepreneurship award is scored on a matrix of its own, and it is built around what a faculty member has actually started rather than what they have taught: 25 marks for teaching and curriculum innovation, another 25 for startup support and incubation, 20 for capacity building and policy engagement, and 15 each for community impact and inclusivity and for recognition and documentation National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
A five-member jury headed by the Secretary, MSDE, takes the final call after an online interaction with shortlisted candidates, and it holds one unusual power: it may recommend an exceptional trainer or master trainer for the award even without a nomination. The approved list is signed off by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
Fine print
Terms & conditions
Three clauses shape how the application has to be built. Submission is final, since no changes are allowed once the application is in; the form is the whole record, since no document outside the application form is acceptable; and a nomination arriving after the due date is not considered at all National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
The certifications carry the weight the applicant cannot see. Annexure-I puts the nominating authority's own name behind the statement that the nominee's integrity is beyond doubt and that no enquiry is pending or contemplated, which is why officers issue it sparingly National Awards to Teachers 2025 guidelines, MSDE.
