About LKDSS
The Lakshadweep Scholarship Scheme is a cash scholarship run by the education department of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep administration. It gives financial assistance to students who are domiciles of Lakshadweep to help meet the cost of continuing their education.
Support covers study at the post-matriculation level, from the higher-secondary stage through undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and doctoral courses at recognised institutions. The award is paid as a monthly stipend together with a lump-sum grant, and the amount is set by the level and type of course a student is enrolled in.
It is meant for individual students who hold Lakshadweep domicile and have passed their most recent qualifying examination from a recognised board or university. Applications are made online through the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in), the Government of India platform that carries state and Union Territory scholarships.

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
| Both parents and the student must be born in Lakshadweep or have one parent from Lakshadweep. | |
| The student and the Islander parent must reside in the Islands. | |
| Scholars cannot receive other scholarships, must surrender any awards, and repay funds received. | |
| Retention of concessions granted by the institution or administration is allowed. | |
| Scholars can pursue courses in Arts, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Law, or Commerce in recognized Indian institutions. | |
| Educational concessions on the mainland are only for studies not available in the Islands. | |
| Stipends may be granted or renewed for health reasons or disability. |
