The scheme has no application calendar to miss, and no closing date is published, because the timeline is tied to the board result. The state record puts the timing as after the Board of Secondary Education declares the result, on a date fixed by the state government.

In practice that has meant a mid-year event announced a few days ahead, not a date fixed in the calendar. Dhar's district administration gave students that notice for a Friday 4 July transfer, run from the Kushabhau Thackeray auditorium in Bhopal with the Chief Minister as chief guest and relayed live to a district centre, covering 1954 students in Dhar alone. Watching the district collectorate site through May and June is the practical substitute for a published date.

The operative test is a result, not a form. A student has to be a Madhya Pradesh resident who has passed Class 12 through the state board, and the marks bar is whatever the state government has fixed for that year's result.

Marks are the whole test. The state record opens the beneficiary category to all, in urban and rural areas alike, and neither that record nor the scheme's national listing attaches a family income ceiling or a caste category condition to the incentive.

Two things follow from the way the list is built. Because the eligibility list comes from the Board of Secondary Education itself, the exam that counts is the MP Board Class 12 exam. And because the percentage is fixed after the result is out, no student can know in March what the bar will be in June.

Madhya Pradesh publishes no exclusion list for this incentive at all, so everything that rules a student out is buried in two words of the eligibility test: first attempt. A student who reached the same percentage through a supplementary or a repeat attempt is outside the condition as the state record writes it. A result from any board other than the state board never enters the list the department works from, however high the marks.

There is nothing to renew. The scheme records carry no renewal condition and no continuing-study requirement, because the incentive is settled against one Class 12 result and paid once.

The name says laptop supply, but what moves is money. Each eligible student gets Rs 25,000, transferred to the student's bank account in a single click, and the purchase itself is left to the family. The amount does not scale with marks, with the price of the machine, or with family income.

There is also no fixed number of awards, which sets this apart from a quota scholarship. Every student above the notified bar is on the list, so the count follows that year's result sheet, and it runs large. All India Radio put the previous round, in 2023-24, at over Rs 224 crore paid out to talented students under the scheme.

Because there is no application window, the papers the scheme record lists are not gate-keeping documents in the usual sense. One of them decides whether the money actually arrives: the bank account. The credit is a one-click transfer into the student's own account, so what matters is that the account is the student's, that it is live, and that the name on it sits correctly against the name on the Class 12 marksheet.

You do not apply. The proceedings for the eligible students of a school are prepared by the class teacher and sent to the district education officer's office, and the transfer runs off the board's list. What a student can do is check.

The School Education Department's laptop section on the Shiksha Portal carries the self-service tools for exactly that: check your eligibility, check your account number, view your payment status, and register a grievance. It sits at shikshaportal.mp.gov.in. The account-number tool is the one worth opening before the transfer date rather than after, because a wrong account found early is a correction, and the same wrong account found late is a failed credit and a grievance.

Nobody is ranked against anybody. The department does not shortlist, does not interview, and does not divide the benefit into district shares. It applies a threshold instead: the state government fixes the qualifying percentage once the result is declared, and the eligibility list received from the Board of Secondary Education is what the payment runs against. A student either clears the notified bar or does not.

The incentive carries no application fee, which is worth holding on to, because the scheme's popularity has drawn imposters. The Press Information Bureau's fact check unit has ruled that a circulating message offering free laptops under a "Student Laptop Scheme 2026", and asking recipients to share their personal information, is fake and part of a scam, with no such scheme announced by the government. No genuine step in the Madhya Pradesh route asks a student to send personal details to a link in a forwarded message.
