Overview

About FESFTYDPC

The Government of Tamil Nadu runs this free-education scholarship for students from Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities who are studying three-year diploma courses in government and government-aided polytechnics. It is administered by the state's Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department, with the Directorate of Backward Classes Welfare as the implementing agency.

The benefit is financial. It covers the recurring cost of the diploma, including the tuition fee, special fee, the compulsory non-refundable fees, the examination fee and a book allowance, so a qualifying student can complete the polytechnic course without paying these charges. Students living in hostels attached to their institution also receive boarding and lodging support.

The scholarship is meant for students from these communities who are the first in their family to reach a diploma or degree, and eligibility is tied to a household-income ceiling. Applications are routed through the polytechnic rather than filed by the student alone, following the notification the department issues for each academic year.
