Overview

About FTTHIP

Fitter Training to Hearing Impaired Persons is a state scheme run by the Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Government of Tamil Nadu. It enrols hearing-impaired candidates in the fitter trade at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Guindy, Chennai, over a two-year course.

The department was formed in 1994 and works from Chennai on welfare schemes and rehabilitation for differently abled residents of the state. This training is one part of that work: a standard industrial trade, taught inside a government ITI, opened to candidates who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The benefit is composite. Alongside the trade instruction, trainees receive a monthly stipend while they study, so the course does not rest on what a family can pay. It is meant for hearing-impaired candidates in Tamil Nadu who want a recognised skill and a route towards work.
