About ATBS
Awards to Bright Students is a state cash award run by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It recognises students from the Adi Dravidar (Scheduled Caste), Tribal (Scheduled Tribe) and Adi Dravidar Converted to Christianity communities who do well in the 10th standard public examination and continue their schooling beyond it.
The department is one of Tamil Nadu's welfare bodies for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, and it runs scholarships, hostels and financial assistance across the school and higher-education stages. This award sits within that work as a merit incentive at the end of Class 10, meant to keep top-performing students from these communities in education rather than leaving after the board examination.
The recognition is narrow by design. In each district, the top two boys and the top two girls from these communities who pass the 10th standard public examination and go on with their studies are selected for the cash benefit, which is paid to the student. If you belong to one of these communities, study in Tamil Nadu and rank among your district's highest scorers at Class 10, you may be eligible.
