Overview

About ATBW

The Award of ₹20,000/- to Best Writers is a recognition scheme run by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It gives a cash award to writers drawn from the state's Adi Dravidar and tribal communities, and sits within the department's wider set of educational and welfare programmes.

The department works on the socio-economic and educational advancement of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes across Tamil Nadu. Alongside scholarships, hostels and housing support, it runs smaller recognition schemes such as this one to encourage writing within these communities.

The award is intended for writers from the Adi Dravidar, tribal, and Adi Dravidar converted-to-Christianity communities, with a place also kept for a writer from other communities. Selection and payment run at the district level through the District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Officer, under the Directorate of Adi Dravidar Welfare in Chennai.
