Overview

About ATBWT

The AICTE-Technical Book Writing & Translation Scheme is run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the statutory body for technical education that sits under the Ministry of Education. It offers a cash grant to encourage the writing and translation of technical books in India's scheduled regional languages, so that engineering and other technical subjects can be studied in a local language.

The scheme covers two tracks: original book writing on technical subjects, and translation of existing technical books into a scheduled regional language. AICTE lists 22 scheduled languages for the work, and the material is meant for diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate study. The financial support is released to the author or translator through Direct Benefit Transfer once the completed work has been assessed by an AICTE experts committee.

The grant is aimed at faculty, working or retired, at AICTE-approved institutions across degree, diploma, pharmacy, management and architecture programmes, as well as researchers at such institutions. Only one author per institution is considered in a given year. The intended readers are students of polytechnics, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and researchers, who gain access to technical study material in their own language.
