AICTE - YOUTH UNDERTAKING VISIT FOR ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE (YUVAK): STUDY TOUR OF ATAL TUNNEL, HIMACHAL PRADESH(AYUVFAK)
Overview
About AYUVFAK
The AICTE YUVAK (Youth Undertaking Visit for Acquiring Knowledge) study tour is a central scheme that provides a financial grant for a student and faculty visit to the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh. It is run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the statutory body for technical education under the Ministry of Education. The support takes the form of a cash grant paid to the institution rather than to individual applicants.
The grant funds a study tour built around the engineering of the Atal Tunnel, a highway tunnel bored under the Rohtang Pass in the Pir Panjal range. The visit is meant to let students and teachers study the geological and geotechnical challenges the tunnel's builders faced and the construction methods they used. AICTE frames the exercise as a way to encourage research and innovation among engineering students.
Because the beneficiary is the institution, an AICTE-approved technical institution applies for the grant and then takes its own students and faculty on the tour. When Manipal Institute of Technology, part of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, sent a group on the sponsored visit, it was made up of third- and fourth-year civil and mechanical engineering students.
