Overview

About ATPPE

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Education, runs this scheme to fund short training programmes in physical education at its approved technical institutions. It is a central-level scheme, and the money is paid to the host institution as a grant rather than to individual participants.

An institution uses the grant to hold a two-week residential training programme for its sports and physical education staff. The training is meant to build participants' ability to draw larger groups into traditional sports, games and recreational physical activity, to orient them towards physical fitness through mass participation, and to update them on modern rules, regulations and techniques along with sports management and sports technology. A test is held at the end, and participants who qualify receive a certificate.

The scheme is aimed at AICTE-approved technical institutions, which apply for the grant and host the programme. The people trained are the institution's own physical education directors, physical trainers, sports teachers, and faculty who serve as sports officer or sports in-charge. AICTE treats the programme as counting towards its Career Advancement Scheme.
