Aaws Bhatta Sahayata Yojana(ABSY)
Overview
About ABSY
The Aaws Bhatta Sahayata Yojana is a housing-allowance scheme run by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh. It supports students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities who study at a government or recognised college away from home and have to rent a room nearby to attend classes. The state administers it through its post-matric scholarship system, and approved amounts reach students by direct transfer to their bank accounts.
The benefit is cash: a monthly rent allowance paid while an eligible student stays in rented accommodation to continue their studies. The amount is fixed by the government and depends on where the college is located. Its purpose is narrow and practical, to cover part of the accommodation cost that lets SC and ST students stay in higher education instead of dropping out for want of a place to live near campus.
Eligibility follows the state's post-matric scholarship rules. The scheme is meant for regular SC and ST students of Madhya Pradesh enrolled at a government or recognised college, who are not staying in a government hostel and who need to rent because their college is not within the same local body as their permanent home. Applications are made on the Madhya Pradesh state scholarship portal, where the institution verifies and forwards each claim.
