About SDUK
Skill Development is a training scheme run by the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology, which sits under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. WIHG was founded in June 1968, moved to Dehradun in April 1976, and studies the geology and geodynamics of the Himalaya.
The scheme gives postgraduate students practical training across several Earth Science disciplines, including structural and evolutionary geology, geochemistry, geomorphology, glaciology and magnetostratigraphy. The benefit is in kind. Students gain hands-on exposure to the institute's laboratories and field methods rather than a cash grant, building on WIHG's work in petrology, geophysics, sedimentology and earthquake geology.
It is meant for individual postgraduate students who want supervised, applied training in these fields. Because it is delivered as training rather than money, the value to a student is the experience and mentoring at a national Earth Science research institute in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Eligibility criteria
| The applicant must possess a postgraduate degree in any discipline of Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or allied fields. | |
| The applicant may also be pursuing an integrated postgraduate degree course and should be in the fourth or fifth year of the curriculum. | |
| The applicant must be from fields such as geophysics, geochemistry, structural geology, sedimentology, paleontology, environmental geoscience, and related disciplines. |
