About SDTK
The Skill Development Training programme is a Karnataka state scheme that trains artisans to make footwear and leather goods. It is run by the Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation (LIDKAR), a Government of Karnataka corporation that works under the Social Welfare Department.
LIDKAR was set up by the state in 1976, first as the Karnataka Leather Industries Development Corporation and renamed after Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram with effect from 13 May 2010. It began under the Commerce and Industries department and moved to the Social Welfare Department on 15 December 2011. Its stated purpose is the overall development of the leather industry in Karnataka and the improvement of the social and economic conditions of scheduled caste leather artisans in the state.
The training covers the manufacture of footwear and leather goods, and it pairs instruction with support that helps a trained artisan begin work on their own. Because it combines learning with material support rather than a single cash transfer, the scheme is treated as a composite benefit. The aim is to raise the earnings of artisans while strengthening the state's leather trade.
It is meant for leather artisans from scheduled caste communities in Karnataka, and selection takes account of age, residence in the state and family income.

| The applicant should belongs to sub-castes Arundathiyar, Chammadiya, Chamar, Chambar, Chamagar, Madar, Madig, Madiga, Mini Madig, Jambavalu, Haralayya, Machigar, Mochigar, Mochi, muchi, Telugu Mochi, kamaati mocha, Rohidas, Dhor, kakkayya, Kankayya, Samagara, Samagar, Aadhi Anddra, Aadhi Dravida, Aadhi Karnataka among schedule castes. | |
| The age of the applicant should be 18 years. | |
| The applicant's annual family income should not exceed ₹30,000/- in rural areas and ₹25,000/- in urban areas. | |
| The applicant or their family members must not have received benefits from other schemes, except training programs. | |
| The applicant's family members should not be employed in government or semi-government organizations. |
