Scholarships to Meritorious Students of Sanskrit Schools(SMSSS)
Overview
About SMSSS
Scholarships to Meritorious Students of Sanskrit Schools is a state merit award run by the Directorate of Sanskrit Education under the Government of Uttarakhand. The directorate plans, supervises and monitors Sanskrit education in the state, and runs 103 Sanskrit schools and colleges across Uttarakhand. The scheme is one of the ways it encourages students to take up Sanskrit study and stay with it.
The benefit is a cash award, and it is a merit scholarship, not a general entitlement. It goes to the students who score highest at the Purva Madhyama (Class 10) and Uttar Madhyama (Class 12) examination stages in the state's Sanskrit schools.
Sanskrit schooling in Uttarakhand runs from the primary grades up to the Shastri and Acharya levels, though most schools go only as far as Uttar Madhyama. If you study in a recognised Sanskrit school in the state and top your Class 10 or Class 12 examination, this is the award meant for you. The directorate sets the marks thresholds and the amounts.
