About SFASUGJAU

Junagadh Agricultural University's scholarship for undergraduate meritorious students is decided on marks a student earned before reaching the university. The selection committee reads the Class 12 Science result, awards a fixed number of places in each faculty, and from then on the student keeps the money or loses it one even semester at a time.

The rules behind it sit in a university notification rather than on a portal page, and they answer what the scheme listings skip: the split of places between faculties, the Principal's part in paying, and what a failed course does to the award.

On JAU's scholarships page this is the first of the university's own awards, listed as the "UG Scholarship (Scheme for Fellowship to UG Students of Various Faculties of JAU)" with no rate beside it (Junagadh Agricultural University, scholarships). JAU's older scholarships list prints the figure against the same title, Rs 1,000 for every month of the award (JAU scholarships list, older site).

The working rules are Appendix-A of a notification issued by JAU's Director of Students' Welfare on 19 December 2020, after the Board of Management approved a revision of the university's undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship rules on 1 December 2020. Appendix-A replaced undergraduate rules that dated from a 2005 notification, and the postgraduate award sits beside it in the same notification as Appendix-B (JAU notification revising the UG and PG scholarship rules, on Mari Yojana). The state's Mari Yojana directory, which names the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Cooperation Department as the scheme's department, attaches that notification to the entry as its related document.

Only students already admitted to one of the university's undergraduate degree faculties are considered, and the notification gives each faculty its own yearly count of awards instead of one university-wide list.

The notification sets no application window, and no dated call for this award appears on JAU's scholarship pages (Junagadh Agricultural University, scholarships). The calendar follows admission and the even-semester result.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

A seat in a JAU degree faculty and the Class 12 Science marks floor get a student onto the list; they do not win the award. Because each faculty has a fixed number of places a year, the committee fills them in order of merit in the Higher Secondary Certificate or an equivalent examination, so the marks floor is a minimum and not a cut-off (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

The undergraduate rules set no Gujarat-domicile condition. The postgraduate award in the same notification does, so the two JAU schemes should not be read as one set of conditions (JAU notification, Appendix-A and Appendix-B, on Mari Yojana).

For veterinary and fisheries students the faculty table predates a move. It still names Veterinary Science and Fisheries Science, but the fisheries college at Veraval has worked as a constituent college of Kamdhenu University since 1 April 2021, a few months after the notification was issued (College of Fisheries Science, Veraval, Kamdhenu University), and Kamdhenu University also lists the veterinary college at Junagadh among its own colleges (Kamdhenu University). JAU's online scholarship form for 2026-27 lists neither college in its college menu (JAU scholarship application form). Neither JAU's scholarship pages nor Kamdhenu's pages for the two colleges say whether a B.V.Sc. or B.F.Sc. student there can still hold this award, so ask the college office which university's scholarships now apply before counting on it. The same form menu lists JAU's polytechnics, which are not among the five faculties the rules name.

Exclusions

The practical effect of the one-award rule shows up on JAU's own list. An awardee cannot also draw ICAR's National Talent Scholarship or Merit-cum-Means Scholarship, the SC and ST post-matric awards or PM YASASVI, all of which the university lists (Junagadh Agricultural University, scholarships; JAU scholarship application form). For some students the choice is lopsided: the university's older list shows the undergraduate National Talent Scholarship at Rs 36,000 a year (JAU scholarships list, older site).

The rule is enforced by surrender, not by refusal. A student already receiving other assistance gives it up, and this scholarship is paid only from the month of that surrender; a concession granted by the college itself can still be kept (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

Continuation

Renewal conditions

The award is made once for the whole degree, but it has to be carried into each new academic year, and that is decided only at the end of the even semester. The Principal of the student's college then sends the University a progress report in a prescribed proforma, and continuation into the next year rests on it (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

Promotion to the next higher semester is required, and the rules treat a failed year and a failed course differently. A student who is not promoted loses the award, and a cancelled award is not restored under any condition except prolonged illness. A student who is promoted with a course to clear at the supplementary examination is held in abeyance instead, and the grade earned at the supplementary is the one that counts towards renewal (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) used in the renewal decision is worked out to two decimals and then rounded up to one decimal, never to the nearest value, so any second decimal above zero lifts it to the next tenth (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

Every awardee receives the same Rs 1,000 a month, whatever the faculty (JAU scholarships list, older site; JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana). The rules count the whole period of graduation, semester-end breaks and vacations included, and the state directory states the monthly rate for 12 months of the year (Mari Yojana scheme directory).

The rules tie payment to the even semester: the college Principal pays after it, on production of the student's progress certificate, so a first-year awardee should expect the first payment only after the second-semester examinations (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

The awards available each year are split by faculty as follows.

The payment clause names the payer and the moment but not the channel: whether the Principal pays into a bank account or at the college is left unsaid, so ask the college office before the first even semester ends (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

What to prepare

Documents required

For a fresh award the Class 12 marksheet does the real work, because the merit order is drawn from it; the photographs only complete the file. For every later year the document that matters is one the student does not write: the Principal's progress certificate at the end of the even semester (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

A boy hoping for an unclaimed girls' place in Agriculture needs to show he is "economically poor", yet neither the notification nor the myScheme record names an income limit or the proof accepted (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana; myScheme record). At the three Agriculture colleges where the clause applies, only the college office can say what proof of being economically poor it will accept.

How to apply

On paper, the claim is a plain-paper letter to the university's Director that travels through the student's own Principal, with the Class 12 marksheet and photographs attached, as the myScheme record sets out (myScheme record).

JAU's online Scholarship / Fellowship form now carries the same award under the type "Award of JAU Fellowship for UG/PG/PhD", and 2026-27 is the only year it offers (JAU scholarship application form). Its two application types line up with the rules: Fresh for the first award, Renewal for each later year once the even-semester report is in. The student's name is picked from a list the form loads for the chosen college and course, and nothing submits until a mobile OTP is verified, so a newly admitted student whose name is missing, or whose OTP never arrives, can take it to the college office or to the IT Cell number the form prints, +91 285 2677487.

Checking Where Your Claim Stands

The person who pays is the college Principal, so the college office is the first place to ask whether the claim was forwarded and whether the progress certificate went in (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana). JAU's online scholarship module opens on a login page, and neither the rules nor the application form describe a status view for students (JAU scholarship login).

How winners are picked

Selection process

A committee of the Deans, the Director of Students' Welfare and the Registrar selects the awardees on Class 12 merit, faculty by faculty (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana). There is no test or interview in the rules.

Agriculture's places follow an extra order. At the agriculture colleges in Junagadh, Mota Bhandariya (Amreli) and Khapat (Porbandar), girls are considered first, and places girls do not fill go to economically poor boys on merit (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana). JAU's agriculture colleges at Morbi and Jamnagar appear on its application form (JAU scholarship application form) but are not named in that clause, so students there should ask how the Agriculture places are shared.

Fine print

Terms & conditions

The conditions reach beyond grades. Good conduct and regular attendance are named as very important for continuation, an unsatisfactory or very irregular student loses the award on the University's final decision, and an awardee may not change college during the tenure without the University's prior permission (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).

The Principal is expected to report habitual irregularity, misbehaviour or taking part in a strike to the University, and may recommend suspending or cancelling the scholarship on that ground (JAU notification, Appendix-A, on Mari Yojana).
