Overview

About SETCMAAI

The Scheme of Financial Assistance for Setting Up Anchor Institute is a Gujarat state programme that sits within the wider Scheme for Enhancement of Technical Competence and Manpower, a skill-development component of the state's industrial policy. The Industries and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat, runs it, and it gives financial assistance to establish and operate Anchor Institutes that train people for specific industry sectors.

On the ground the scheme is delivered through the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), a Government of Gujarat organisation set up in 1979 that works on entrepreneurship and skill development for the state's industries administration. An Anchor Institute is meant to narrow the gap between the skills industry needs and the skills the available workforce has, by anchoring sector-focused training and centres of excellence within Gujarat.

The benefit is financial assistance in cash. It is aimed at institutions rather than at individual students: industry-sponsored institutions and centres of excellence with an established track record in their sector, which take on the work of setting up and running the training. Students and jobseekers reach the scheme indirectly, through the courses and programmes an Anchor Institute delivers.
