Research Study/Seminar (Grant-in-Aid Scheme)(RSSGIAS)
Overview
About RSSGIAS
The Research Study/Seminar (Grant-in-Aid Scheme) is run by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, and administered through the Central Statistics Office. It sits under the Grant-in-Aid component of the ministry's Capacity Development scheme, and it funds research and academic work in the field of official statistics.
The scheme covers three kinds of support. It backs research studies and surveys that help bridge data gaps in official statistics or improve the methods behind them; it supports national and international seminars, conferences and workshops on official statistics; and it offers travel grants for presenting accepted papers in theoretical or applied statistics at international events held outside India. The benefit is paid as cash, and for research projects it can also take the form of data support from the ministry.
The research and seminar grants are meant for professional and research institutions working in official statistics, including government statistics directorates, the Indian Statistical Institute, bodies that receive recurring grants from central or state agencies, and organisations registered as societies, trusts or companies. Travel grant support is narrower: it is limited to officials of the Central Government, central autonomous institutions and universities who have had a statistics paper accepted for presentation abroad. Proposals are reviewed by an expert panel and a screening committee before a grant is sanctioned.
