Overview

About RMEWF - EDUCATION

The RMEWF Financial Assistance for Education of Children and Widows of Ex-Servicemen is a central welfare grant administered by the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), the apex body under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Ministry of Defence. It is funded from the Raksha Mantri's Ex-servicemen Welfare Fund, which is where the acronym RMEWF comes from.

The grant is paid as cash toward education. It supports the schooling and undergraduate study of dependent children of ex-servicemen (ESM) and their widows, and it also covers widows who are themselves enrolled in a postgraduate course. The assistance is a recurring monthly payment rather than a single one-time award.

The scheme runs across all states and is meant for ex-servicemen families rather than the general public. It sits alongside the KSB's other welfare grants, such as support for orphan and disabled children of ESM and vocational training for widows, all drawn from the same fund.
