About SPNUA
The Sardar Patel National Unity Award is a civilian honour instituted by the Government of India in 2019 and administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who led the integration of the princely states after Independence, and it recognises work done to strengthen the unity and integrity of India.
According to the national awards portal maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the award recognises the notable and inspiring contributions made by citizens, institutions and organisations of India towards the cause of national unity and integrity. It is open to both individuals and to universities, institutions and other organisations, not to students alone.
The award is a recognition rather than a cash grant. Recipients are selected by a committee headed by the Prime Minister, and the honour is announced on 31 October, National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), which marks Sardar Patel's birth anniversary. For students reading this, it is a national honour for outstanding service to India's unity, not a scholarship you apply to for study support.
