Overview

About PMSSBSCC

The Pre Matric Scholarship for Students belonging to the Scheduled Caste Community is a Mizoram scholarship for Scheduled Caste children in the school years just before matriculation. It was launched by the Mizoram Scholarship Board, the body under the Government of Mizoram that processes and disburses scholarships across the state, and the Board takes in the applications and pays out the cash grant. The scheme runs at the state level, and its cost is shared on a 90:10 basis between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Government of Mizoram, as set out in the scheme guideline.

The scholarship is for Scheduled Caste students studying in Class 9 or Class 10. Its stated aim is to support their families through the pre-matric stage so that fewer children drop out in the move from the elementary to the secondary level, and so that more of them carry on to the post-matric stage. The benefit is paid in cash as financial assistance towards their schooling.

Eligibility turns on four conditions in the guideline: the applicant must be permanently settled in Mizoram, must belong to a Scheduled Caste, must be studying in Class 9 or Class 10, and the parents' or guardians' annual income from all sources must not exceed ₹2,50,000. A student who does not meet all four falls outside the scheme, so the conditions are worth checking before applying.
