Overview

About POSTMSC

The Post Matric Scholarship for students belonging to Scheduled Castes is the version of a national scheme that runs in the union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH & DD). The parent programme is centrally sponsored by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and State and union territory governments deliver it locally. Here, the Social Welfare Department administers the scheme and selects awardees from among eligible resident applicants.

Its purpose is to raise the number of Scheduled Caste students who continue into higher education after Class 10, with priority given to those from low-income households who might otherwise stop studying on cost grounds. The benefit is cash: financial assistance towards fees and the academic expenses of post-matriculation study, paid to eligible students so they can complete their courses.

The scholarship is meant for Scheduled Caste students pursuing recognised courses at the post-matriculation or post-secondary level. Eligibility rests on caste status as certified by the State or union territory, together with the family income and course conditions set out in the scheme rules, which the department checks at the point of application.
