Overview

About MSDST

The Mobility Scheme is a central government scheme run by the Department of Science & Technology (DST). It sits within KIRAN (Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement through Nurturing), the umbrella under which DST groups its women-exclusive science and technology schemes, and it is meant to address the relocation problem faced by working women scientists.

Its purpose is narrow and practical. When a woman scientist has to change cities, her research post rarely moves with her, and a career built over years can stall. The scheme is meant to support women scientists whose current job is disrupted by such a move, and to act as a bridge while they look for their next position at the new place.

The relocation situations DST cites include marriage, family responsibility, and a spouse's transfer under a transferable job. Eligibility is limited to women scientists whose present employment is affected by a move of this kind.
