About KSCSTE-ESS
The Emeritus Scientist Scheme (ESS) is run by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), an autonomous body constituted by the Government of Kerala in November 2002 and working under its Department of Science and Technology. KSCSTE promotes science and technology activity across the state and operates a network of research and development centres.
The scheme is built for superannuated scientists. It gives retired researchers a way to continue working in their field of specialisation after their formal careers end, and to apply that experience to problems relevant to Kerala. The support is a cash award, paid as a monthly fellowship together with an annual contingency grant, and an appointment runs for a fixed term of up to three years.
It is aimed at outstanding retired scientists and academicians from Kerala who hold a strong record of published research. Selected candidates carry out their proposed work at a KSCSTE research and development centre. The fellowship is a one-time opportunity: anyone who has already held an Emeritus Scientist Fellowship, whether from KSCSTE or elsewhere, cannot apply again.

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
| Applicant should be a Permanent Resident of Kerala. | |
| Candidates should be retired scientists/academicians in Kerala by birth or domicile and should have worked as a scientist/academician in reputed institutions with commendable scientific achievements. | |
| Candidate should apply within 5 years of superannuation. | |
| The candidate should have published a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed research papers with SCI-indexed journals with an impact factor greater than 2.0 or should have filed at least one patent in the last 3 years of application. | |
| Those who have availed Emeritus Scientist Fellowship earlier (from KSCSTE or elsewhere) are not eligible to apply. | |
| The Research Centre selected for the proposed work should be the R&D Centres of KSCSTE. |
What you get
Award & benefits
- Selected candidates are eligible for: Monthly fellowship of ₹31,000/- for a maximum period of 3 years.
- An annual Contingent grant of ₹1,00,000/- eligible for the entire project duration.
- Technical Assistance in the form of a Project Fellow can be appointed to support research activity.
- Fellowship will be given for a period not exceeding three years, (Maximum duration of the project - 3 Years).
