About HPSJMMSS
The H.P. Swaran Jayanti Middle Merit Scholarship Scheme is a merit scholarship run by the Department of Elementary Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh. It is meant to spot academic talent early, at the middle-school stage, and support it with a monthly cash scholarship as a student moves up through the middle grades.
Selection runs through a state-level examination conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Solan. Students sit the test while in Class V, and those who qualify receive the scholarship across Classes VI to VIII. The award carries forward year to year as long as the student continues in a Himachal Pradesh government school without repeating a class and keeps up at least 75 per cent attendance.
The scheme is open to students studying in government schools in Himachal Pradesh, across all categories. A fixed set of 100 scholarships is awarded each year and distributed among the state's districts by a quota tied to Class V enrolment, so the benefit reaches the top-ranked candidates from the examination rather than every applicant. The award pays ₹4,000 a month in Class VI, ₹5,000 in Class VII and ₹6,000 in Class VIII, released for twelve months of each year.

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
| All the students studying in Class 5th as regular students in the Government Schools are eligible to apply for the State Level examination to be conducted by the SCERT, Solan (H.P.). | |
| Note 01: The student must continue to study in the Government School of H.P. Govt. without repeating any class for continuity of scholarship. | |
| Note 02: It would be mandatory for the student to have at least 75% attendance during the session for which he/she is to be awarded the Scholarship. | |
| Note 03: In genuine cases of acute illness or any medical exigency, subject to verification by the Medical Board, a condition of 75% attendance will not be applicable. |
