Overview

About GRSSCGS

The Grant of Retention Scholarship to Scheduled Caste Girl Students is a Union Territory scholarship run by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, Government of Puducherry. It supports Scheduled Caste girls in the primary classes, from Standard 1 to Standard 5, studying in government or government-recognised private schools across Puducherry. The award is ₹1,000 a year, released as ₹100 a month for the ten months of the academic year, and a girl keeps it as long as she is promoted to the next class and continues her studies satisfactorily.

The scheme is built around retention. Its stated objective is to encourage Scheduled Caste girls to take up primary education and to stay enrolled through those years without dropping out.

Eligibility turns on residence and family income. The girl must be a native of Puducherry or have lived there for at least five continuous years, and the annual income of her parent or guardian must not exceed ₹24,000. Applications are made online on the National Scholarship Portal, and the papers asked for include a caste certificate, an income certificate, a nativity or residence certificate, and bank account details.
