Scholarship
Grant of Annual Scholarship to the Students Belonging to UT of Puducherry Selected and Studying in the Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, Tamil Nadu(GASSUTPSSATN)
Overview
About GASSUTPSSATN
This is an annual cash scholarship run by the School Education Department of the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is paid to students who belong to Puducherry, have been selected for admission to Sainik School, Amaravathinagar in Tamil Nadu, and are studying there. Because the school sits outside the UT, the scheme is the way Puducherry supports its own students who take up a place at it.
Sainik School, Amaravathinagar was started on 16 July 1962 and stands near the Amaravathi Dam at Udumalpet in the Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the residential Sainik Schools run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence, and it follows the CBSE curriculum. Admission is through the national Sainik School selection process, so the Puducherry grant applies only after a student from the UT has secured a seat.
The benefit is a fixed cash grant paid per student for the academic year, meant to offset part of the cost of a residential Sainik School education. It is a state-level scheme, so eligibility turns on the student belonging to Puducherry and being on the rolls at Amaravathinagar rather than on a particular stream or course. The Directorate of School Education, Puducherry notifies the grant each year and processes claims for the enrolled cohort.
