Overview

About GSSVHHI

The Government Special School for the Visually Handicapped and the Hearing Impaired is run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Puducherry. It provides schooling for children who are visually impaired or hearing impaired, with the aim of supporting their education and building the confidence to live independently.

Support is given in kind rather than as cash. Admitted children get free academic education on campus along with residential facilities, and are supplied with learning material such as textbooks, notebooks and uniforms. Braille books are provided for visually impaired children, and hearing aids for those with hearing impairment.

The scheme is meant for children in the union territory of Puducherry who are visually impaired or hearing impaired. Admission is handled by the Social Welfare Department, which sets the detailed requirements a child must meet to enrol.
