Overview

About FBASCS

Food Bill Assistance to SC Students is a Gujarat state scheme that helps Scheduled Caste students meet the cost of meals while they stay in college-affiliated hostels. It is run by the Director, Scheduled Caste Welfare, under the state's Social Justice and Empowerment Department, and appears in the department's list of educational schemes under the code BCK-10.

The support is paid as a monthly cash allowance towards the hostel food bill, granted for a set number of months in the academic year. The purpose is narrow: to lower the day-to-day cost of hostel living so that an SC student from Gujarat can continue in higher education without the food expense becoming a reason to leave.

Eligibility is limited to students from the Scheduled Caste category who belong to Gujarat and reside in a hostel attached to their college, subject to a family income ceiling fixed by the department. Applications are made online through the Digital Gujarat portal, and the claim is processed through the office of the District Deputy Director (Scheduled Caste Welfare).
