Overview

About FASTS-GBSY

The Gagan Bharari Shiksha Yojana is a Goa state scheme that adds a maintenance allowance on top of the Centrally Sponsored Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students. Run by the Government of Goa, it works as a top-up rather than a standalone award: a student first qualifies for the Post Matric Scholarship, then draws this further amount.

The state pays the extra because the maintenance allowance under the Post Matric Scholarship does not stretch to cover a student's day-to-day costs of food and travel. Day scholars receive an additional ₹7,500 and hostellers ₹15,000, each paid across ten months of the academic year. The benefit is cash.

Eligibility follows from the link to the Post Matric Scholarship. You need to belong to a Scheduled Tribe community in Goa, study as a regular full-time student at a recognised institution or university, have availed or be eligible for the Post Matric Scholarship in the current year, and come from a household earning no more than ₹5,00,000 a year. A scholarship for any given class is available for one year only, and a student who repeats a class cannot claim it a second time for that class. Applications are made online through the Goa Scholarship Portal.
