The second one catches people. A postgraduate who has let a Master's run past its normal span, for any reason, can meet the merit condition and still fall outside the award. The qualifying-degree condition narrows the field again before that: the first class has to come from a State Agricultural University in Gujarat, so a science graduate from a general university in the state does not qualify on the strength of marks alone.

The blocking clause is Statute S.109.1, which says no student in receipt of any type of scholarship from any Government or Semi-Government agency is eligible for a freeship, fellowship or scholarship under the statute. Statute S.109.2 shuts out any student the university has punished for malpractice in a university examination or for other misconduct, which is the same ground the scheme covers in its own words.

In practice the first clause is a choice, not a disqualification, and the arithmetic is not close. A student who clears NET mid-course is looking at a Junior Research Fellowship that begins at Rs 37,000 a month against Rs 5,000 here, both figures printed in the same table on the university's own site. The fellowship worth protecting is the larger one.

Continuation is decided every year on the grade sheet, not signed off once at admission, so the award behaves more like an annual test than a lump grant. The scheme sets an OGPA floor and treats a fail or incomplete grade as fatal, and it separates a formally withdrawn course from a course simply dropped, which is the distinction a student in trouble should get in writing before the semester closes.

Neither the scheme record nor the university publishes a separate renewal form or a renewal window. The operating detail sits with the university by design: the statutes leave the Academic Council to constitute committees for fellowships and studentships and to frame the regulations for such awards from time to time.

A Master's student and a doctoral student are paid at the same rate here, and that is worth checking against the one award on SDAU's own list that does widen with the degree: the UGC NET fellowship steps from Rs 37,000 to Rs 42,000 when a Junior Research Fellow is upgraded, while this university award holds at Rs 5,000 for both degrees. What separates the two degrees here is tenure, not the monthly figure.

The other half of the picture is how many students actually hold it, and there this award runs the opposite way from the undergraduate scheme SDAU operates alongside it: a higher rate, spread over far fewer people.

The paperwork is short and entirely retrospective: mark sheets, photographs, and a bank account linked to Aadhaar. Two points are worth planning for. The graduate mark sheet is asked for alongside the postgraduate one, which matters for a doctoral applicant whose Master's was taken at another Gujarat agricultural university, since both sets have to be produced together. And the account named on the form is the account the money will land in, so a dormant student account, or one that was never Aadhaar-seeded, is worth fixing before the form goes in rather than after a sanctioned payment stalls.

The university's scholarship table carries no downloadable form and no application link for this award, so the format of the application is whatever the year's notification prescribes.

Applications are made on paper to the University Registrar, and there is no portal in this process at any stage, which changes what tracking means. There is no application number to check and no status screen: the file sits in the office it was submitted to, and progress is followed by asking that office.
